Bowls SA – Events Update

by BowlsSA2

The ability to execute Bowls SA Events as well as the timeliness of communication will largely be dependent on the frequency of government updates. This provides a lot of unknowns over this period and as such we will need to have the ability to think, react and communicate quickly to get bowlers on the greens when it is possible. Our promise from Bowls SA will be to communicate as frequently as possible in line with any updates provided by the government.

Current disruptions:

Disruption to pennant competition

Currently affecting all Associations. Member Clubs are encouraged to contact their Association for updates as required and relay this information to their members. Associations are encouraged to keep up to date with the latest government and Bowls SA guidelines and continue to communicate and consult with their member clubs to make the best decisions for the entire Association. More communication will result in less queries and less uncertainty.

Whilst  restrictions are currently affecting all Associations –each Association has a different schedule and goals for their competition – therefore a once size fits all Bowls SA policy may not always be possible. We are here to support the Associations where needed to provide advice for pennant competitions. We encourage Associations to utilize online technology to discuss contingency plans if they have not started to do so already. Bowls SA can assist in setting up online meetings and being present for advice where needed. The main objective would be to ensure that when we are able to get back on the greens, we are ready to do so safely.

Disruption to Bowls SA State Events

Our intent is to continue events with minimum disruption to other scheduled events where possible.

State Pairs – The Final 16 & 8 as well as Semi Finals and Finals are currently postponed. We will be endeavoring to complete these games at alternate dates to be advised.

State Mixed Pairs – If games are able to start on the prescribed dates they will – however there is a large amount of uncertainty and it seems unlikely games will be able to be played on these dates and therefore will also need to be rescheduled with a date to be advised.

SA Super League:

Rounds 6, 7 and Finals are currently postponed. We will be endeavoring to complete these games at alternate dates to be advised.

Upcoming January / February Events:

State events that are due to be played in January and February including the MGA Men’s Country Carnival, Country Round Robin (selected teams), Sports Centre State Singles and Under 18 Championships have closing dates for entries in December which is just around the corner, so now is the time to get your registrations in.

Bowls SA is hopeful that these events will be able to go ahead unimpeded by Covid-19 restrictions but also acknowledge that there is a large amount of uncertainty at the current time. What we want to acknowledge is that if any event is impeded by Covid-19 restrictions then the entrant will be entitled to a full refund of the entry fee payed to Bowls SA.

To register for these events, please visit the following link: https://www.bowlssa.com.au/online-event-registration/

The calendar will become a rolling calendar and we will adjust pending on how long the restrictions last. At the current point in time (November 19th) there will be no change to event registration closing dates, however this will be reviewed regularly. All events are likely to need a change in conditions and participants are only encouraged to participate if they feel comfortable to do so.

Again, we have a lot of uncertainty and this will be an ever-evolving situation. We are going to have disruptions and are going to need to be vigilant in the way we run our events. Whilst it may be frustrating at times, we must gather around as the bowling community and look after each other. It is a game that is so important to all of us, our friends, family and well-being but to remember it is just a game, and life can be so much more important.

We have full faith that we will be able to work together to provide quality bowls events for all South Australian Bowlers, hopefully it’s sooner rather than later, but the most important thing is that it is done so when is safe.
