2020/21 Under 18 State Championships – Day 1 Wrap Up

Day 1 of the Under 18 State Championships got underway today with the Singles component down to the semi finalists for both the Boys and Girls. A superb day down at Adelaide Bowling Club with 22 boys and 12 girls taking to the 3 greens.

Game 1 kicked off at 9:30am with some huge match ups to kick start the morning. Last years Silver medalist Adam Black (West Lakes) narrowly got up (21-20) against Adelaide Bowling Club’s Cooper Hocking. Kobe Jarman (Hope Valley) cashed in a big win against Edithburgh’s Dudley Russell downing the Yorke Peninsula boy 21-11. Last years winner, Nathan Black (West Lakes) also collected a big win over Arthurton’s Harrison Geater-Johnson.

In the Girls arena, Faith Scholes (Wallaroo) secured her first game with a comfortable win over Indi Vass (Curramulka) 21-3. Further big wins were achieved across the girls rinks with Kate Argent-Bowden (Angaston) Getting the upper hand on Mallala youngster Lucy Howard 21-3 and Sheridon Bodnar with a handy 21-1 win over first year Port Noarlunga player, Charley Horewood-Gitsham.

 

Game 2 saw a battle of brother’s with last years Gold Medal Match Adam Black and Nathan Black fight a nail biting 19-21 in Nathan’s favor. Adelaide Bowling Club boys Corey Hicks and Charlie Hicks playing the second longest game for the day, in a 21-15 bout going Corey’s way. Both older brothers taking more than humble victories.

Anda Panchawat (Port Noarlunga) also collected a handy win over fellow squad member Evie Exton (Christies Beach) 21-19. Indi Vass coming back from a tough first game to collect a narrow victory against Emilie Evers (Salisbury) 21-18.

 

Game 3 had Tyson Black (Gladstone) up and about with a big win to lock in his Section win, downing Declan Warner (Salisbury) 21-4. Kobe Jarman suffered a small loss to Hamley Bridge’s Kane Jansen 21-17. Charlie and Corey Hicks both collected big wins in their 3rd game with Corey coming through as the Section winner.

Evie Exton and Hanika Booth (Nuriootpa) fought out the longest game of the day with a 21-20 win to Hanika Booth in her first Under 18 State Championships. Sherdon Bodnar also collecting another handy win in her 3rd game over Lucy Howard.

The Girls will progress through to the semi finals on Thursday afternoon where we will see the below match-ups;

Semi Final 1: Faith Scholes VS Kate Argent-Bowden

Semi Final 2: Anda Panchawat vs Sheridon Bodnar

 

The Boys played a knockout which saw the following match-ups;

Knockout 1: Tyson Black vs Charlie Hicks

Knockout 2: Nathan Black vs Jordan Lewis

Knockout 3: Corey Hicks vs Cody Letton

Knockout 4: Liam Coe vs Kobe Jarman

 

The 4 winners who will progress to the Semi-Finals will match-up as below on Thursday afternoon;
