MGA Men’s and Women’s Country Carnivals
The 2018-19 MGA Men’s Country Carnival and MGA Women’s Country Carnival will be held over the same time period in late March. The decision to make this change occurred as part of a review, and is also supported based on feedback received through members completing a survey, where a significant number of male respondents (64.53%) preferred the MGA Men’s Country Carnival at a time other than February or had no preference. The change of timing is also supported by the interruption to play caused by inclement weather over the last three years in the MGA Men’s Country Carnivals held in the February time slot. The survey also asked respondents to advise their preference as to holding the two carnivals at a separate time period or concurrently, of which 61.98% male respondents and 64.25% female respondents either had no preference or preferred them to held concurrently, and as a result the 2019 event is to be held with both the events running concurrently.
It is hoped this move in timing will also assist member clubs to complete their club tournaments in time for Champion of Champion Qualifying, and frees up more days for Clubs and Associations to hold their own tournaments and events.
Country Round Robin
The timing of the 2018-19 Country Round Robin has been moved to follow the MGA Men’s and Women’s Country Carnivals in order to keep the consistency of events, and away from the inclement weather often experienced in February.
SA v VIC and U18 SA v VIC Series
The dates for both SA v VIC series events are only tentative and are pending confirmation of venue and timing with Bowls Victoria – please note that these dates on the calendar may change.
Under 18 State Championships
The 2018-19 Under 18 State Championships have been moved to January, this is due to the timing of public holidays and other events during April.
Prestige Medley
The 2018-19 Prestige Medley is due to be held in a Metropolitan region, as per rotating years.
Champions Week
Champions Week is again split into two separate Champions weeks, one to be played prior to Christmas in December, with the other to be played in April, as highlighted in the recent State Event Survey this format is under review for future seasons.
Bowls SA State Champion of Champions
Member and Clubs are reminded to be aware of the closing dates for these events and ensure that their club tournaments are completed by these dates to enable winners the opportunity to participate.
As per the previous seasons, to qualify for the State Champion of Champions event, club champions wishing to compete will need to enter the open qualifying draw to be held in the Metropolitan area.
The finals of the Champion of Champions Singles and Pairs will be held during the Bowls SA Champions Week 2.
