2018-19 Champions Week 1 Day 4 Wrap Up

by BowlsSA3 on December 16, 2018

The Semi Finals and Final of the State Pairs brings us to day 4 of Champions Week for 2018. Day 4 means we have reached the final day in what has been a great event so far and provided spectators with quality bowls and sportsmanship throughout all disciplines both Male and Female. With the weekend bringing much kinder weather to Murray Bridge, the stage was always set for a big finish as both the Men’s and Women’s State Pairs Champions are crowned for 2018/19.

Semi Finals

Previous winners of the event Craig Mills and Geoff Munn took on talented youngsters Tyson Wilson and Nathan Black in what was a tight contest early, the scales eventually tipped the way of the more experienced duo in Mills and Munn who ran away 21-7 winners. The West lakes pair of Kane Coulls and Aaron Bremner had a solid win over Brad Errock and Daniel Langdon from Mount Gambier in a game that was closer than reflected on the scoreboard but in the end it was a 21-7 win to the men from West Lakes. On the ladies side of things, it was a very one sided affair for the Laura girls in Leanne Tenney and Karin Lynch who put on a fabulous show for spectators securing their spot in the final 20-7 against Jackie Field and Tiffany Kimber who to their credit never gave in. The Wallaroo pair of Marilyn Brandt and Di Milner took on an enthused Patria McGrath and Theresa Emberton and in a game that went shot for shot the entire way through, McGrath and Emberton were able to pull away when it counted and take away a 17-9 win, therefore securing themselves a spot in the Final.

Final

With overcast and windy conditions only strengthening after the lunch break, the players had to re-adjust quickly. In the Women’s Final we saw Theresa Emberton and Patria McGrath take away the honours 19-8 over the Laura pair in Leanne Tenney and Karin Lynch. The game was tight early but for the majority Emberton and McGrath were able to hold them at arm’s length and in the end take away a comfortable win to take the title. In the Men’s it was very much a West Lakes affair with Aaron Bremner and Kane Coulls pitted against Port Noarlunga’s Geoff Munn and fellow West Lakes teammate Craig Mills. It was a see sawing affair for most of the game with plenty of lead changes but in the end Bremner and Coulls proved to be too strong claiming the Pairs title for 2018/19 with a 22-15 win.

That concludes Champions Week 1 and once again what a success it was. Thank you must go to the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council for all their supports, our sponsor Lion Nathan/West End and of course the Murray Bridge Bowling Club and their volunteers.

Well done to all, Have a safe and merry festive season and we will see everyone back at Murray Bridge for Champions Week 2 in April 2019.
