Returning to ABC TV in 2010 in its traditional timeslot at 5pm on Saturday afternoons, the national broadcaster will commence the first of 40 programs for the year this week when it screens the women’s triples final from the recently completed Australian Open.
Featuring world number one Val Smith and her New Zealand teammates Clare McCaul and Jan Khan, the Black Jacks confront the star-studded trio of Beth Quinlan, Lynsey Armitage and Julie Keegan in an engrossing affair.
Having defeated young guns Kristina Krstic, Breeanna Dickson and Carly Griffiths in the opening round, Keegan’s rink dropped just the one set on the road to the championship decider, but do they have what it takes to overcome the raiders from across the ditch?
Standing in their way is Smith, the reigning world champion, as well as her national teammates, who were desperate to hoist one of Australia’s most coveted trophies aloft.
