Country Round Robin

Fleurieu & KI have defended their Men's Country Round Robin title after an 11 shot win this morning over title challenger North Eastern. With a clear scenario, Fleurieu & KI knew that a win this morning would get them back to back titles. Wins to Robin Binney and Fred Kelly were the highlights of the win, along with Shane Bevin's 6th win which ultimately handed him the prestigious Top Skippers award aswell. Bevin was placed half a win behind South Eastern's Ken Crisp but he fell at the last hurdle, along with North Eastern's Gary Pursche, to hand Bevin the personal milestone. However the story of the day was the team effort of Fleurieu & KI, who will now look for the coveted 3 from 3 in 2011.

In the Women's event, again the scenario was clear for eventual champions South Eastern. Defeat Eastern this morning and stand alone on top with 6 wins. A 14 shot victory was enough, thanks to a Margaret Marshall inspired 21-13 win over Ivy Kluske. For the individual honours, it certainly came down to the wire with 7 skippers tied on 5 wins after 6 rounds. However with a clear shots up advantage, Yorke Peninsula's Merrilyn Lovelock was always looking the goods if she won her game this morning. She succeeded with this and in doing so, defeated one of her closest rivals in Kathie Bowman to clinch the coveted award. A great effort by Merrilyn and her team and another notch on her belt after skippering the Over 60's Fours to victory in December.

A big thankyou must go to all clubs for hosting the 2 events over the 4 days and a special mention to all umpires and volunteers who gave up their time during the week. To Event Managers Kenn Rogers & Anne Swaffer, thankyou for your time - the country players all appreciate the work that gets put into the biggest event on the Country Bowls Calender.
