MGA Men's Country Carnival
Titles to Kadina, Mt Barker & Port Lincoln
Honours were shared on the final day of the MGA Men's Country Carnival, played in warm conditions at Holdfast Bay.
In the blue ribbon Singles event, 2007/08 Singles Champion and 2008/09 Pairs Champion Gerado Perone from Port Lincoln again showed his quality in big matches. After defeating club team mate Brad Harris 25-23 in the Semi, he endured another close match against Port Germein's Neville Leue, eventually sneaking in 25-22. This was another heartbreak story for Leue who has now been Runner-up for two consecutive years.
In the Pairs, 2001/02 Singles Champion David Faehrmann partnered with Eastern Skipper Steve Jones to take victory from the jaws of defeat against the highly fancied Steve Eichenberger & Andrew Hill. After dominating their Semi against Mick & Dennis Treloar 22-2, all expected Eichenberger and Hill to run away with the title. However the boys from Mt Barker had different ideas, getting up 14-12. As in the Singles, this was a disappointment for Eichenberger and Hill as this was the same result last year.
To continue the trend of past winners, a last minute inclusion of 2008/09 Fours Champion and 2003/04 Singles Champion David Pearce to the Kadina Four Skippered by Derrick Bushell was the perfect mix to get them up over the Port Lincoln team of Kym Wakefield, Paul Reinke, Graham Schaedel and Gary Schreiber. After a marathon Semi-final against Carl Wohling's Four from Kimba, the Lincoln boys simply ran out of puff as Brian May, Pearce, Ken Willcox and Bushell ran away with the victory 21-13.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants for another extremely succesful Carnival and thank you to Major Partner, David Millington, and MGA Insurance Brokers.
